Let’s start summer with a brand new member of the Local Hideaway. A Hideaway with an enormous wow factor, situated in a beautiful and still not very well known corner of (northeast) Spain- The Empordà!

This hidden gem, situated in a picturesque medieval village, absolutely has it! Not surprising because the property is an old Italian palace. It still breathes the grandeur and finesse of the wealthy Italian family that once used this house as a country retreat. Now it is proudly owned by the young enterprising Oleguer and Anna. They have transformed the palace into a small modern and luxurious
pampering hotel. This hotel meets all the Local Hideaways criteria I can tell you.

The rooms are beautiful and fully equipped…

Wonderfully luxurious and with so much attention to detail. If your budget allows it, I would really go for the suites! The breakfast is delicious and well cared for, the spa is a delight and the bonus is the little pool on the roof terrace overlooking the roofs of the village. And in the summer months, there is another super bonus: the garden next to the building is transformed into a fantastic summer garden where you can enjoy a drink or a bite to eat!

I have a lot of admiration for these super sympathetic young entrepreneurs who bring a fresh modern wind in the Spanish hospitality industry. Well done! And you don’t really have to leave the house. Relaxing is perfectly possible here. But the surroundings are definitely worth it as well. The Empordà is one of my favourite Spanish regions! This Catalan area north of Barcelona has it all. Fantastic beaches, a beautiful hinterland with overwhelming nature, even volcanoes, old medieval villages, art, delicious wines, fantastic food and a great
city, Girona! Of course, I still have a word of advice: “don’t spread the word”. Because this is a real Local Hideaways secret tip!
